Cormorant fishing is a traditional fishing method in which fishermen use trained cormorants to fish in Li River. To control the birds, the fishermen tie a snare near the base of the bird's throat. This prevents the birds from swallowing larger fish, which are held in their throat, but the birds can swallow smaller fish. When a cormorant has caught a fish in its throat, the fisherman brings the bird back to the boat and has the bird spit the fish up.

There are cormorant fishing shows available every evening. Tourists from all over the world can have the chance to see the disappearing traditional way of fishing. You will board a bigger tourist ship going along the Li River, while one or two bamboo rafts with 4-5 cormorants will follow your ship, so you can watch how these smart birds catch fish from the shallow and clean river.
