The Flying Tiger Heritage Park is built on the site of the Yangtang airport in Lingui County, about 15 km from Guilin City. Historically, the airport served as the bases for the Flying Tigers air squadron in 1941-1942. And today, it is not an airport but a historical site.

This heritage park, with an area of 47 acre, include a museum, aircraft shelters and relics of a command post located in a cave, which is the only of its kind. The project is part of celebrations commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of World War II, according to the city government of Guilin.

The US-based Flying Tiger Historical Organization, which includes the squadron's pilots, their families and supporters, said it has donated more than 600 historical items to the park.

About Flying Tigers
The Flying Tigers, officially known as the 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG) of the Chinese Air Force, were formed in 1941 led by General Claire Lee Chennault to help China drive out invading Japanese troops. This volunteer group got its nickname since there is a flying tiger on their emblem. On December 23, 1943, all Flying Tigers members move to Guilin Yangtang Airport for for garrison, responsible for air defense and attacking Japanese marine transport ships. Both the headquarters and command posts were in the caves in two mountains at Yangtang Airport. Since then, all commands and reports were sent from here.

Flying Tigers based mostly in Kunming of Yunnan Province, Guilin and Liuzhou of Guangxi Province from 1942 to 1944. A customized Flying Tigers Tour can be made to cover them all.
